Look out lady hummingbirds, this strikingly handsome adult male Allen’s hummingbird is out on the prowl. Easily mistaken for the Rufous Hummingbird, the male Allen’s have a green back and forehead, with rust-colored rufous flanks, rump, and tail.

Hot-tempered male Allen’s hummingbirds are really fun to watch, and can often be seen guarding the feeder. They also make time to show off, with a little acrobatic back and forth courtship dance to impress the females. We’re impressed with their dance moves, are you?
